Unions, activists and advocates for better U.S. health care vowed to keep the pressure on Congress after two more Senate Republicans’ defections killed the latest GOP plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.
From his days as a grocery clerk to his current work as director of special projects for United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1189, Hesse has made himself ubiquitous in St. Paul’s labor community. He reflects on those experiences on the occasion of his retirement.
The Worker Organizing Committee and the management of Seward Coop have agreed "to work together to ensure a fair and democratic election" on Thursday, June 22, they announced. Workers will vote whether to be represented by United Food & Commercial Workers Local 653.
Workers at Seward Community Co-op hope to become the next group of co-op employees to win union recognition. On Wednesday, more than 100 workers and supporters marched to three Seward locations, chanting, “Union Power!”
The Hardman Avenue Workers Center, located at the UFCW Local 1189 hall, will hold a grand opening celebration Thursday, June 8. The center will offer free workshops for people who need assistance or have questions about the immigration process.
