Governor Mark Dayton signed state budget bills Tuesday, but vetoed funding for the Minnesota Legislature in an effort to force lawmakers back to the bargaining table to rescind policy measures opposed by many Minnesotans.
The legislation coming out of the special session of the 2017 Legislature is "deeply flawed or explicitly hostile to the interests of Minnesota children and their families," Education Minnesota said Wednesday morning. The union called on Governor Mark Dayton to veto the bills.
DFL Gov. Mark Dayton and Republican legislative leaders announced shortly before the curtain closed on the 2017 legislative session that they had reached an overall budget agreement, but it will take a special session to finish the job.
The worker-led group Making Change at Walmart rolled out a campaign Wednesday to hold the nation’s largest retailer accountable for the strain its stores put on local resources. Walmart refuses to hire security officers, which costs taxpayers when local police have to respond to petty crime.
