IATSE makes progress on contracts

Minneapolis Convention Center workers voted Nov. 11 to ratify a new two-year contract, reported Dirk Ostertag, business agent for Local 13 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE).

After 11 months of negotiating, Ostertag said, the workers were limited to the two percent annual wage increase cap imposed by Mayor R.T. Rybak and the Minneapolis City Council. The agreement covers 11 full-time workers and up to 100-200 part-time workers.

Ostertag also reported that an agreement in principle was reached Nov. 9 with the Minnesota Orchestral Association. Workers will vote Dec. 5 whether or not to ratify the contract, which covers five full-time workers and more than 200 part-time workers.

By the end of the year, Ostertag said, IATSE Local 13 also is working to settle contracts with the Historic Theatre Group (Pantages, Orpheum and State Theatres), the Jungle Theatre, and, in St. Paul, the Ordway, Xcel Energy Center and RiverCentre.
