Amy Livingston joins Labor Education Service

Amy Livingston has joined the staff of the Labor Education Service at the University of Minnesota, which plans a welcome reception Nov. 4.

Most recently, Livingston was employed by the Graduate Employees’ Organization, a local of the American Federation of Teachers, where she worked for the last six years as an organizer and educator of graduate student employees at the University of Illinois. She has designed and taught classes in a variety of traditional collective bargaining areas and initiated programs around special topics, such as diversifying the union and “queering” the contract.

Livingston has connected with workers in a variety of ways, working on issues such as fast food organizing and the problem of mass incarceration. Her interests and skills will bring new strengths and perspectives to LES programming. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in philosophy from the University of Memphis.

Livingston fills the position opened when Tony DeAngelis retired.

A welcome reception will be held Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Nye’s Polonaise, 112 E. Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis. The reception will feature complimentary hors d’oeurves and a cash bar. Please RSVP to Sharice McCain at 612-624-5020 or by e-mail.

The Labor Education Service is the only educational program in the state specifically focused on the needs of Minnesota workers and their organizations. Since 1951, it has provided educational training and media services to thousands of workers, labor unions and other groups in areas related to collective bargaining.
