Growth & Justice hosting event with Van Jones

Growth & Justice, a Minnesota-based research and advocacy organization, is hosting a speech by human rights and environmental pioneer Van Jones on Sunday, May 19, in St. Paul.

The program starts at 5 p.m. at Unity Church Unitarian, 733 Portland Ave., and is followed by a reception. Tickets are $25 general admission, $10 for students and $100 for the speech and reception.

Jones is an internationally recognized pioneer in human rights and clean energy innovation and president and co-founder of Rebuild the Dream, a think tank advocating for economic justice.

He has written two New York Times bestsellers: The Green Collar Economy, the definitive book on green jobs, and Rebuild the Dream, a roadmap for progressives moving forward.

“His work and advocacy synchronizes with Growth & Justice’s ambitions to broaden prosperity by making smart investments in practical solutions that improve our human capital and physical infrastructure,” the organization said.

Jones was an early green jobs advisor in the Obama administration and co-founded two social justice organizations: the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights and Color of Change. He is a CNN contributor and was named one of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world.
