McCarthy was one of two Authority members appointed by Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak.

Governor Mark Dayton appointed three Authority members, including Michele Kelm-Helgen, whom he appointed as its chair.

McCarthy was elected as the Authority’s vice chair, the body’s first official action after taking their oath of office June 23.

“I’m honored to receive Mayor R.T. Rybak’s appointment to represent Minneapolis on the new Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority,” McCarthy said. “Building the new Vikings football stadium will create thousands of construction jobs and help support thousands more jobs on an on-going basis.

“As a member of the new Sports Facilities Authority, I will be an advocate for the interests of Minneapolis and for workers as the Authority shapes the development of the new ‘People’s Stadium.’

“We’re entrusted to give Minnesota a new world-class sports facility we all can take pride in, a facility we as the Authority will be working to deliver on-time and on-budget.”
