Locked-out workers plan events this week across Minnesota
20 February 2012
| MOORHEAD - Workers locked out of their jobs by two large companies – American Crystal Sugar and Cooper Tire & Rubber – join forces this week for a “Journey for Justice” that includes events across Minnesota. |
The journey kicks off Wednesday at noon outside the Marriott Hotel, 1080 28th Ave. S. in Moorhead. Workers and supporters will rally, then march to the Crystal Sugar corporate headquarters to demand an end to the lockout of 1,300 members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco & Grain Millers union that has been going on since Aug. 1.
A fundraiser for the workers will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Minnesota AFL-CIO, 175 Aurora Ave., St. Paul. Funds raised will support the Journey for Justice and go to hardship funds to assist the locked-out workers.
On Thursday, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., workers and supporters will rally outside the Crystal Sugar operation at 1060 Stoughton Ave., Chaska.
The group of workers then journey to Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana, ending their trip in Findley, Ohio, where some 1,000 members of the United Steelworkers have been locked out for more than two months.
