Carpenters demonstrate to support strong wages, benefits

MAPLEWOOD - Union carpenters are picketing a Maplewood bank to support maintaining area wages, benefits and training standards.

Members of the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters picketed Monday outside the Premier Bank building at White Bear and Beam Avenues in Maplewood.

The picket is in protest of Premier's decision to undercut area wage, benefit and training standards by using Friedges Drywall Inc. as a subcontractor on the new building, the union said. The Carpenters Union has set up pickets and other demonstration activities at projects around the metro area to highlight the low pay and benefits that Friedges provides workers who do interior systems construction.
