Ellison, Gutierrez to host community hearing on immigration
13 June 2007
MINNEAPOLIS - Congressman Keith Ellison, DFL-Minneapolis, and Congressman Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., will host a community hearing on immigration reform Saturday, June 23, in Minneapolis.
The event will run from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Washburn High School Auditorium, 201 W. 49th St., Minneapolis.

Gutierrez is author of the STRIVE Act, controversial legislation to change the federal immigration system. He and Ellison will discuss how immigrant communities will be affect by proposed changes and what provisions need to be included in comprehensive immigration reform.

"This is a great opportunity to share information and begin a more involved and informed dialogue about immigration in the United States," Ellison's office said in announcing the hearing.

This event is co-sponsored by state Senators Mee Moua and Patricia Torres Ray and state Representative Carlos Mariani.
