20 December 2006
WORTHINGTON - United Food & Commercial Workers Local 1161 has set up a fund to aid the workers and families affected by the Dec. 12 raid at the Swift Co. meatpacking plant.

Contributions to the fund will provide direct relief for families in the Worthington area and support efforts to help them locate their loved ones. Some 230 people were arrested by agents of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and many other people are staying home out of fear.

Donations should be payable to "Local 1161 ICE Victims Relief Fund" and sent to:

UFCW Local 1161
P.O. Box 183
Worthington, MN 56187-0183

Local 1161 has served as a clearinghouse for information since the raid and is coordinating relief efforts with churches, community groups and other organizations.
