August 19, 1909 - The Industrial Workers of the World – “Wobblies” – issued the first edition of their "Little Red Song Book." Learn more about the Wobblies and the songbook at www.iww.org

August 19, 1916 - Strikebreakers hired by Everett Mills owner Neil Jamison attacked and beat picketing strikers in Everett, Washington. Local police watched and refused to intervene, claiming that the waterfront where the attack took place was federal land and therefore outside their jurisdiction.
