Political theater focuses on Latino immigration

Minneapolis - The issue of Latino immigration is the focus of the 2007 Political Theatre Festival by Teatro del Pueblo. Performances start Feb. 15 and run through March 4.
The festival brings political issues and theatre together to create a forum where ideas and information are exchanged. Each presentation consists of performances and dialogues. All performances are in English with some Spanish.

Three series will be offered:

Series A
Thursday, Feb. 15, 8 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 17, 8 p.m.
Sunday, Feb. 18, 2 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 23, 8 p.m.
Sunday, Feb. 25, 7 p.m.
The following plays will be featured:

Dead Bolivians On A Raft by Guillermo Reyes
An immigrant Mexican family confronts their playwright son when he tries to cast non-Latinos in his play about the family's immigration.

Road Scholar by J.B. Pravda
A vehicular breakdown results in the possible breakdown of a woman's stereotypical worldview.

Contents Under Pressure by Dana Yeaton
An American couple assembling a changing table receive an unexpected addition in the box -- a refugee from Mexico.

American Immigrant! by Dominic Orlando
A popular reality show brings to light the horrors of the undocumented immigrant issue in this country. This funny interactive play will engage you in more than one way.

Did You Hear the One about the Mexican Laundress . . .? by Daniel Damiano
A profiled Mexican woman becomes a suspected terrorist when she is stopped by the authorities at the Laundromat.

Embassy of the Americas by Dominic Orlando
A Latin American national discovers firsthand the frustrating and demeaning difficulties of getting a visa into the United States.

American Immigrant! by Dominic Orlando
A popular reality show brings to light the horrors of the illegal immigrant issue in this country. This funny interactive play will engage you in more than one way.

Friday, March 2, 8 p.m.
Saturday, March 3, 8 p.m.
Sunday, March 4, 2 p.m.
The featured performance, to be followed by a special presentation to be announced, will be:

Help Wanted by Virginia McFerran
This satirical piece explores the plight of undocumented immigrant workers through a story loosely based on the events surrounding the Albino sisters' landmark case ruling about the exploitation of undocumented workers in the United States.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and students and $10 for groups of 10 or more, with several performances designated as "pay what you can." All performances will be at Intermedia Arts, 2822 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis.
