Willmar educators still without contract

The Willmar School District is the only district in Minnesota that has not settled a contract with educators – and they plan to rally Wednesday to call for a fair and equitable settlement.

The rally will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the offices of the Willmar Public Schools, 611 5th Street SW.

Members of Education Minnesota Willmar have been working without a new contract since June 2015, the union said.

“The Willmar School District is the ONLY school district that has not settled a contract. This is unacceptable. They need a fair and equitable contract now.”

Educators hope the rally will send the message that the union’s proposal is fiscally responsible and that “settling the contract is an investment in your most valuable resource, those that deliver the mission and strategic roadmap of Willmar Public Schools.”

The district serves students from the communities of Blomkest, Kandiyohi, Pennock and Willmar.
