Red Wing workers authorize strike

Members of SEIU Local 113 at the Red Wing Health Center nursing home voted Friday 80-12 (87% in favor) to authorize a strike, their union, Service Employees International Union Local 113, announced.

Prior to any strike, Local 113 would file a 10 day notice of intent to strike.

Although management refused to extend the current contract after it expired at the end of September, further negotiations are scheduled for the end of October.

According to Kelly Preskorn, a LPN at Red Wing Health Center, “We will continue to bargain in good faith, but this strong vote speaks for itself.”

The employees, most of whom are long-term Red Wing residents, provide care for more than 125 residents.
