Mankato nurses picket over patient care

Nurses at the Mayo Health Clinic System in Mankato conducted an informational picket as contract talks continue between the MHCS and the Minnesota Nurses Association.

“Nurses hope continued contract bargaining sessions between nurses and Mayo management bring some resolution to many concerns that low nurse staffing levels have at times put patients at risk,” the MNA said. “Nurses are eager to demonstrate their dedication to achieve a fair contract that protects patients and retains the level of nursing care the community expects in Mankato.  Formal negotiations offer the opportunity for nurses to bring their bedside concerns to the boardroom on equal footing through the power of collective voice.”

The informational picketing took place Tuesday. The contract between nurses and the medical center in Mankato expires Sept. 30.
