Allina, striking nurses continue talks

Representatives of Allina Health and the Minnesota Nurses Association are continuing talks in the hopes of ending a nearly month-long strike.

In a statement issued late Wednesday, the union said, “Allina Health and the Minnesota Nurses Association met today for negotiations and have mutually agreed to adjourn for the night.  We will reconvene in the morning to continue the discussions.”

On Tuesday, striking nurses rallied outside the General Mills stockholder meeting in downtown Minneapolis, briefly shutting down traffic. General Mills Executive Vice President John Church is chair of the Allina Health board.

Several striking nurses also attempted to address the meeting and raise questions about the negotiations.

Nurses began an open-ended, unfair labor practice strike on Labor Day. The strike involves some 5,000 registered nurses at Abbott and the Phillips Eye Institute in Minneapolis, Unity Hospital in Fridley, Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids and United Hospital in St. Paul.
